Oculus is rewarding its original Kickstarter backers with the new Rift

Oculus VR is thanking the original backers of its Kickstarter project to introduce their first virtual reality headset by giving them each a final version of the Oculus Rift. This Rift will be a special edition, meant to thank the 6,855 backers that ordered the original development kits from the company’s Kickstarter campaign.

In a letter to Kickstarter backers, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe, founder Palmer Luckey, VP of Product Nate Mitchell and CTO Michael Abrash wrote

“You were there at the beginning of our journey — we couldn’t have done it without you.”

Oculus is making this kind gesture to it’s backers just one day before the completed, consumer-ready version of the Oculus Rift goes on sale. Even though many people have the rift already, those development kits intended for people interested in creating virtual reality experiences.

The backers will recieve a form to fill out before February 16th in order to claim their special edition Oculus rift. The VR head set will also come bundled in with a copy of the game Lucky’s Tale and EVE Valkyrie.

Ever since Oculus started with Kickstarter, the company received several major rounds of funding before being acquired by Facebook in March 2014 for $2 billion. During the Facebook acquisition announcement, some backers were upset that a product they had helped fund had been sold for so much.

Apple is expected to supply wireless EarPods with iPhone 7

Apple may make up for its decision not to build a headphone jack into this year’s iPhone 7 by providing all customers with free wireless EarPods as standard, according to a new report.

Chinese site Anzhou, which cites sources familiar with Apple’s plans, claims the Cupertino company is indeed planning to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack to make iPhone 7 and 7 Plus even thinner. As a result, users will have to rely on Bluetooth and Lightning alternatives.

Although Apple will surely push for those Lightning-compatible alternatives, the company believes that most customers will want a wireless solution instead. With that in mind, it is expected that Apple will  replace its existing free EarPods with a wireless model.

The company did offer a wireless Bluetooth headset alongside the original iPhone, but it was a pricey accessory that simply allowed users to make hands-free calls. It was not intended to be a headphone replacement.

You can also buy heaphones with lightning connectors but keep in mind that they are pretty pricey and hard to get but we will most likely see more options once the iPhone 7 comes out.

As always this is just a rumor and it may not happen, so please take this with a grain of salt.

According to reports, Samsung Galaxy S7 will be water resistant and have microSD slot

Samsung may be bringing back some of its most popular features on their older flagship smartphones that were missing on their latest flagships.

this includes:

A micro SD Card Slot and Water Resistance

The microSD slot will support cards up to 200 GB and both devices will be water resistant at depths up to 1 meter, according to the report from VentureBeat’s Evan Blass.

Though these features where present on the Galaxy S5, the latest rumors suggest the new smartphones will have a similar design as last year’s Galaxy S6. The Galaxy S7 will have the same 5.1-inch display as last year’s S6, though the S7 Edge will have a larger 5.5-inch screen.

The Smartphone is also said to have a larger batteries with the S7 S7 moving from 2550 mAh to 3000 mAh and the S7 edge upgrading from 2600 mAh to 3600 mAh.

Also the rear camera is said to be 12MP which is a downgrade in terms of megapixels form the S6 (16MP) but it is said to have an f/1.7 lens aperture that will be “especially capable in low light situations.” The front-facing cameras will be the same as last year’s 5 MP shooters.

If these rumors are true, this could be a great year for Samsung.
